In 1993 are held the first democratic elections in Cambodia. Jacques was commissioned by the UN to organize the event since Ratana Kiri, a province near Vietnam. This area is notorious for being the birthplace of the Khmer Rouge, so it's in a volatile setting that Jacques, himself a French-Vietnamese, especially to ensure monthly receipt of a suitcase containing $ 200 000 for payment of employees. Of course, this money raises lust: a group of thugs who claims the Khmer Rouge hatched a plan to seize and to sing Jacques ... This book asks a question in the geopolitics of South-East Asia: how two people of both sides of a political border, culturally and economically be able to live in peace despite the ghosts of the past and the difficulty to access a democracy?
